5 Creative Activities That’ll Boost Your Child’s English

In any language lesson, communicative activities are the foundation of fluency. The same applies to any form of English classes in Singapore. These activities will enable you to do the one thing that is vital for mastering any language, practice, practice and practice some more.

We can all sharpen our language skills as we engage in activities that sharpen our listening, speaking, reading and finally writing skills.

1. Listen to English music or audio books

Of the four skills, listening is perhaps the easiest to practice. This is because your child can listen passively and they don’t need to concentrate too much. Use English in everyday conversations.

2. Participate in speaking clubs

Good listening skills inspire excellence in the ability of public speaking.

As your child listens to more English content and understand it, they will inevitably find the urge to respond. As they join and participate in conversations, they will naturally improve their English-speaking skills.

As your child sharpens their listening, speaking and reading skills, they can take bold steps to enhance their confidence by participating in English activities.

For instance, you could introduce a game of “picture speak” to your child.

Draw an object, for example a house. Then, have your child describe the picture in English.

5. Take up some writing activities

Your child will attain mastery of English only when they can write proficiently.
